I thought I was fine, just plodding along from day to day, without a care in the world. Engrossed in my own little world. I delighted as I watched others achieving their goals and celebrating their successes. A spectator in every way and when others asked me to join in I politely declined, thinking it wasn’t for me, not something I would or could ever contemplate doing. Or so I thought… This was before I discovered my true purpose, God’s purpose for me.
The greatest turning point in my life occurred quite by accident, literally. I was doing some gardening work. While cutting down some rose bushes, my right hand started to shake uncontrollably. I couldn’t even hold a glass. What I thought started out as a sprained wrist, resulted in me not being able to use my right hand. I had trouble doing basic things, such as getting dressed, washing my hair, cooking and even using cutlery. This went on for a while and even though I had physiotherapy and treatment I was informed that the damage was permanent and that I would never have full use of my hand. I was heartbroken. By now I could use my hand a little but it was never the same. I felt that my world had turned upside down overnight. I didn’t realize that God had other plans for me.
Funnily enough, it was while I was at the Physiotherapists room when it first happened. I was wearing a sparkly bracelet, and the receptionist complimented me. As I was walking home that day I remember feeling full of joy, after feeling down for so long, the receptionist cheered me up and it was all because of a bracelet. Later that evening I thought to myself how wonderful it would be to make everyone feel just as special and so I had a ‘feeling’ almost like being ‘pulled’ to the direction of providing jewellery for others. I couldn’t describe it but I felt like I was supposed to do this, to show others love by making them feel good about themselves, and so I began my first business called SommerSparkle which provides jewellery for special occasions. I prayed, listened and followed my instinct every step of the way. Before I knew it, SommerSparkle began winning awards.
A couple of years ago God guided me to start writing, and I felt the need to encourage young people to go for their dreams, regardless of their current situation. ‘Life Lessons from a 40 something…’ is my debut book, it is a self-help and personal growth book based on my personal journey through life. This was difficult for me as I am a naturally a private person, but I felt guided to share my experiences, which were at times painful, so that I could help others.
Now, I feel I have a sense of purpose. I get up in the morning knowing I am part of a bigger picture. I realise that each one of us can make a difference. I am no longer a spectator of life, I now achieve my own goals and celebrate my own successes as well as others. So, if you feel you are called to do something, or that your heart is being pulled to a certain direction, take a leap of faith and go with it. Remember, it’s all part of God’s amazing plan.
