Does God want us to be successful? Is success even mentioned in the Bible? Here’s what I discovered in my Quiet Time recently. God did say something about success and getting there might not be what you think (or maybe for some of you it is).

This is what Joshua 1:8 says:

Keep this Book of the Law always on your lips; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful.

That was quite an aha moment for me. All along, I knew how to be successful. Put Him first. Read and meditate on His Word. Obey Him. That should have been basic but in our pursuit of success, our devotion to God slowly dies down. Why? Because we get so caught up in our things to do that we often forget that this life is temporary! Whatever we acquire, we will leave behind when we die! Get a serious thought on that.

So before anything else, know that prioritizing our relationship with God is foremost. Nothing should take His place. If we can have time to read a book or blog, watch a movie or YouTube, we should have the time to meditate on His Word.

When we meditate on His Word, we know our actions are based not on our judgment but based on God’s leading. When we pray before we make a decision, we know God will lead us to the right path (which may not always be easy, but that doesn’t matter much as long as we are doing His will).

Matthew 6:33 says…

But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness…

Seek Him first.

What are you doing to cultivate a better relationship with God?
How do you make your Quiet Time with God more meaningful each day and not turn it into a routine?
